Rosie does polka dots!

My daughter Riva, gave Rosie this outfit complete with hoodie.  I think Rosie likes it but is not too sure about having her ears covered. Luckily she got this new outfit just in time for winter. While Buffalo got all the snow, we in Syracuse only got an inch which is bizarre. Rosie does love to play and eat snow!

Please Do Not Ask Santa To Deliver A Puppy!

Your kids have been great this year…growing up and being more responsible…you are thinking that maybe this is a great time to finally get that dog that they have been begging you for.

But please don’t ask Santa to bring your family a dog (or cat or other potential pets that take a lot of attention). First of all, there is Santa already working with elves and reindeer and a billion toys to deliver. How is he going to hold onto your puppy! Seriously, there you are thinking about Christmas morning and now visualizing coming out with a puppy with a huge red bow on and the cute overload is just too much. You are thinking you will now be at the top of the list for “Parent of the Year!”

STOP RIGHT NOW! Now go back and remember past Christmas mornings with wrapping paper and ribbon flying everywhere. Take a minute and think what’s going to happen next…you drop the puppy in the middle of all this…he will most likely piddle on the carpet, wrapping paper, etc. He may grab something, like that new plush animal Santa Claus got your daughter and in two seconds has already taken a sizable chunk out of it. He may even try and nip, bite or bark at everyone. And poor Max has gotten off on the right paw with his new family. If you are anything like my family, then after opening your presents, everyone heads out to go visit all the friends and relatives. And Max is already left home alone in the house! Or family comes to your house. There you are cooking, entertaining and hopefully the kids are playing with Max…but he’s competing with their other “new toys.” And by the way, did you remember to buy some puppy food, water dish, puppy toys, dog collar, leash, etc.?

Now take a moment and think about buying a plush, doggy bed, dog sofa bed or crate pad. You can use that big, red bow and wrap the dog bed and place under the tree and you won’t have to bother Santa Claus either. Put a note inside saying that after the holidays you will take them to an animal shelter and together will pick out the perfect puppy to sleep and nap in that dog bed! They will have something wonderful to look forward too and everyone wins…you still can make that “Parent of the Year” list, the kids help in the decision making and the puppy wins too! When you bring Max home, don’t forget to get a dog crate ahead of time for the ride. You and your kids can now pay full attention to getting him and your family accustomed to Max and meeting his needs.

So waiting until after the holidays will help Max and you adjust to having a new furry friend around the house.. Please don’t let your puppy be the one that goes back to the Animal Shelter after a few weeks because you didn’t make the right decision and plan properly.

Make a list and check it twice…and then fill it AFTER the holidays.
