Is Your Doggy Worth a Million Dollars?

Or make that almost TWO million....someone in Hangzhou, in China’s Zhejiang province paid that amount for a Tibetan Mastiff! Gee, where do you think that dog gets to sleep...and certainly not on some old blanket...someone tell that new dog owner to buy a plush doggy bed from www.buydoggybeds.com!

Military DOG captured!

I was greatly disturbed to hear about a military dog having been captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Just when you think you have heard it all...a dog being used as a hostage. The handler is “devastated.”  The dog is a Belgian Malinois trained to sniff out explosives. http://gawker.com/those-taliban-bastards-are-holding-an-american-dog-host-1518167781

I Am Not Irish

Rosie would just like to take this time to remind her human and everyone else that she does not wish
anyone a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day.” She just went along and let her human put on this hat so that in return she would get several doggy treats. (Yes, Rosie can be bribed!) Rosie is a Standard
Schnauzer, meaning she is 100 per cent German...and proud of it...obviously she doesn’t believe that

Daylight Saving Almost Here!

Saturday night March 8th before you go to bed, turn your clocks one hour ahead.
I love when Daylight Savings comes...can Spring be far behind...or is that ahead...

Sheriff Joe To The Rescue!

SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

Joe Arpaio is the Maricopa, Arizona County Sheriff and luckily he keeps getting elected over and over.

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays.  Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who’d like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows. The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million.

Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him.  Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
